Unexpected Jewelry Displays

There is some controversy out there regarding displaying jewelry rather then hiding it in a drawer somewhere. Personally I think jewelry, especially the type we all wear nowadays (more costume than expensive pearls/diamonds) is very beautiful and I don't believe it should be hidden from the world. I am not however recommending it be displayed in your living room per-say, but if you are a single woman (or have a forgiving partner), your bedroom can be the perfect place to showcase your fashion finds!
I am a firm believer in recycling and reusing items some may never think of for completely different purposes. Below you will find my top 10 "DIFFERENT" and unique ways to display your jewelry:

1. Reuse household items:
Originally these triangular shaped pieces were part of a shower caddy (similar item seen right). While the caddy ended up not fitting in my bathroom correctly, I saw potential for pieces included in the caddy and my search for a modern hanging jewelry display was over. While you may not have an unused shower caddy to use as I did, there are MANY items in your home that you can use. It just takes a little imagination! Also, a GREAT resource is local garage sales, thrift stores, discount stores etc. I have found some VERY inexpensive, unexpected items that would work wonderfully.......

2. Picture Frames:
Using a picture frame is very practical and versatile. It can sit on a dresser or be hung on a wall. You can leave use thumb tack to hang necklaces across the length of the frame, fill the frame with chicken wire to hook on earrings...
The frame itself can usually be painted to match your decor, and they come in an array of shapes and sizes, so this idea is a homerun!

3. Stacking vintage plates/glasses:
You have all seen those tiered jewelry displays that can cost upward of $40 and sometimes more (Think Anthropology), but why spend the money when you likely have the tools to create your own and more memorable display at home? Using vintage style plates and glasses (also look at Garage sales or Grandma's basement, Tuesday Morning), and stacking them: Plate, glass upsidedown, smaller plate...etc
They do not have to match to be beautiful!

4: Shoerack re purposed:
A shoerack can be oh so much more! I found this "shoerack" at Taget and while it promised to hold 25 pairs of shoes, I found it really only held 12.5 pairs of my size 8.5 and didn't do it in a very pretty way....so while this rack has held many different purposes over the past 5 years, (including art supply holder, beauty product shelves...) it is currently a bracelet (and sunglass) display case. I have my necklaces hanging above, so I can go over to my "accessory center" and quickly choose my baubles for the day. I sort everything by color so it makes it super easy!

5. Vintage Printer Drawer:
Usually a swat meet find, these old drawers can make such a beautiful piece of artwork with your earrings hanging. While more work to get it jewelry ready, a few eyelet screws in each square, maybe a little paint and your there! You can also use silverware trays or organizer shelves: Some already covered with pretty paper (Home Goods usually has a good selection). Also look in the home office section(s) for drawer separators.
Craft stores also have a great selection: Usually used for beads and buttons and what-have you.

6. Pretty Bowl:
Find a unique, pretty bowl or grandma's old crystal candy dish for your rings and broaches. You can even get a little fancy and fill the bowl with those colorful beads they sell for flower vases so that your rings sit on the top and make it even easier to find the one of the day!
You can even find vintage bowls and use multiple in a drawer if you don't have the counter space for displaying.

7.  Tennis Racket:
Maybe not for everyone, but when I spotted this on a (non English) blog, I had to include it...

 8. Pegboards:
Not just for the garage any longer! Check out more pegboard ideas on We heart it
9. Small Home Statues:
From hands to crazy modern scrolly shapes, you can find items that were designed to just be art which can be transformed into jewelry displays. This one item happens to have been designed for that purpose already, but she was so cute I had to show you. Still Girls online store sells these cute and personalizable "jewelry dolls"
Holds everything from facial piercings to hair accessories and even glasses.

10. Large Wire Dress Shapes:
While most people don't have the room for one of these additions, they are gorgeous and can be multi-purpose...you guessed it; jewelry displays! While their shapes and actual hanging areas vary greatly, you can usually hook on earrings and necklaces just about anywhere.
(Also sold in smaller versions!)

There are a plethora of store bought jewelry displays you can get, but what is the fun in that? Make something or re-purpose something you already have and take pride in your art and imagination! Be different and inspire those around you. Comment and let me know if you use any of these ideas! :D
